Transitional Kindergarten Information

 

 

Welcome to Transitional Kindergarten!

 

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two-year Kindergarten program that uses a modified Kindergarten curriculum which is age and developmentally appropriate.  TK is designed to provide a bridge between preschool and Kindergarten for children turning five (5) years old between September 2nd and December 2nd.  The TK program addresses the young child’s language, literacy, and pre-math skills and emphasizes social and emotional development. TK provides young learners with a readiness year that will prepare them for success in traditional Kindergarten and beyond.

 

Children who will reach the age of five (5) years on or before September 1, 2019, are eligible for Kindergarten in August 2019. Children who will reach the age of five (5) years between September 2 and December 2, 2019, are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten in August 2019. Please refer to the Student Services page for documents and immunizations required. 

 

TK/Kindergarten enrollment begins January 1, 2019 using the Aeries Online Enrollment, for students attending TK and Kindergarten in August 2019.  Once completed, print out the enrollment summary, along with required proof of residency and immunization documents and bring it to your school of residence  beginning Tuesday, February 5, 2019. Please refer to your school’s website for the hours of registration.

 

Monte Gardens Elementary is a neighborhood and district-wide School of Choice. Enrollment is open to students who reside in the Monte Gardens boundaries and via lottery, to students who reside in the MDUSD boundaries.  The Monte Gardens Kindergarten Lottery is held each year in December for children who will start Kindergarten the following August. Sequoia Elementary School is a district-wide School of Choice. The Sequoia Kindergarten Lottery is held each year in December for children who will start Kindergarten the following August. Please refer to the school website to learn more about enrollment and lottery procedures here.
